Zoey's Story
as told by an Angels of the Snow volunteer
Zoey was turned in to a shelter in Massachusetts because her
family was moving. The family told the shelter they were bringing her down
whether or not there was room for her.
They also said she was part wolf. A wolf dog! That
was like signing her death warrant, because it is illegal to own a wolf dog in
Massachusetts unless you are a Native American Indian.
I went down to the shelter to meet Zoey and promptly fell in
love with her. She didn't seem wolf-like to me, but her fate was sealed
the moment the shelter was told she was.
She was only two, so I went on a mission to save her. I
spoke with people at wolf dog rescue, and with Tom's help I made some good
contacts. Finally, I reached a Native American family in New York. I
sent pictures and they said they wanted her. Success! I paid for the
spaying and shots and drove her five and a half hours to her new home in
Plattsburgh, New York.
The resident Chihuahua gave permission for Zoey to join the
family, and the rest is history.
