Storm's "Forever Home"
Part 1, from Nannette's Diary Well, I think Storm may have found her "forever home." I stress think, because we've thought that before, but maybe she was just waiting for the right human. She met Laurie and Ozzy (Laurie's other dog) today. All went well. There are a couple of parts of the fence that Laurie is having her boyfriend fix. One part is only 3 feet high, and the other is where the fence meets the house -- small space, not taking any chances! Storm got along fine with Ozzy. Of course she wanted to play but I think Ozzy was just saying, "OH, what's this?" Storm liked Laurie, she went to her and kissed her. Laurie even carried her around (like her foster mom, ME). Storm decided to jump onto her kitchen table, but Laurie didn't freak out. Of course I said "DOWN" and she did. Laurie has ceramic tiles on all her floors. She tore up her rugs because animals will have accidents. With tile floors, you just wipe them up and go on. What a great attitude! They also have a doggie door. Storm just went out, did her thing, came back in, and was fine. The dogs also have their own room upstairs with a futon and a twin bed in it. That's their room, but they also have the rest of the house and access to the outside via a doggie door. I think the best part was that Storm got along fine with Laurie and Ozzy. I also liked them both. Could Storm have found her "forever home"????? I'll keep you updated as we work things out with Laurie. We're going ahead with the adoption. Laurie's coming here today. I feel better with Laurie picking her up, this way I'm not leaving Storm. I think the transition will be better for her, too.
When Laurie got here, Storm ran right over to her, giving her kisses. Later, Storm was laying there in all her glory, with Laurie rubbing her belly. I think they're going to be just fine! Storm also went right out the door with her and into the car with her new mom. This is really strange, typing "mom" and not meaning me. I do think Laurie is going to be great with her though. Laurie said she wasn't feeling good that day, and Storm would probably go upstairs and lay with her on her water bed when they got home. I hope Storm doesn't make her seasick., LOL.
Part 2, Laurie's Comments Just to let you know, Storm appears to be adjusting nicely. She slept on the waterbed with Ozzy last night. They're doing nicely together. Storm is really cute and everyone that has met her loves her. Storm had a big day today. She went for a walk with Chalupa and then went to my mother's for dinner. Actually, I had dinner, Storm was just along for the ride. She was pretty good in my truck and stayed in the back. Right now she's sacked out on my waterbed, she really seems to like that thing!! Tomorrow I'll ask Chris if I can start her in the beginner's obedience class next week. I really love her, she's such a nice size, easy to handle. Ozzy can be tough to handle when walking because he can overpower me if he sees something he really wants. I'll try to get some pictures of Storm at class next week. She will be starting school on Monday. She is really a wonderful dog, so friendly and lovable. She loves my waterbed and has been sleeping there since day one. When I go in to watch TV she lays next to me nice and quiet, and I really enjoy her company. I never knew rescue groups like Angels of the Snow existed until I got my computer, and I think it's a great idea. When I found out my 7 year old rottie had cancer I was devastated. She was an awesome dog, but I knew her days were numbered, so I started checking around. I once had a husky and decided I would get another. At 90 pounds, the rottie weighed nearly as much as me. Storm is just the right size. Matter of fact, she's here with me now while I'm on the computer. Thank you and Angels of the Snow for giving me the opportunity to have this beautiful dog and for giving Ozzy a new friend.
Part 3, Postscript from Laurie Storm is doing real well. Ozzy is not even phased by her any more. They hang out outside and Ozzy barks at my next door neighbor with his motorcycle, and Storm just watches. She had a bath Saturday in the tub, and she was OK. She didn't put up too much of a fuss. I brushed her out and everything. She was good. She likes to lay on the lawn chair I have on the porch, but mostly she stays in. She's the best thing to come my way in a long time. I can't thank you enough. Here are some pictures of our family. I hope you like them. |
