Angel Becomes a Teenager 1. Will you look at this silly thing she put on my head? You'd think it was someone's birthday. 2. Whoa! What's this thing, with all the little torches on it? 3. Hm-m-m. It smells good, a little like salmon. 4. Oh my, it IS salmon! 5. Bu-u-u-r-rp! How 'bout another piece of cake, Mom?
Shelby and Kimi's Great Adventure On May 22nd, 2004, Shelby and Kimi began their long trek from western Pennsylvania to their new homes on Cape Cod. The transport was organized by Angels of the Snow volunteer Joy Curtis. The photos that follow tell the story of that transport and what followed. Anita picked up the second leg of the trip from Shirley. Foster Mom Shirley and Angel wave goodbye. As they get underway, Molly gives Anita directions to Albany. After more handoffs at I-495 (thank you Joice), and Sagamore (thanks to Nancy and her daughters), Shelby and Kimi were ready to meet the crowd that had gathered to meet them at Barnstable along Route 6. In all, nine Siberians and an equal number of humans rejoiced at the completion of the 12-hour trip. All of the dogs were remarkably calm, There was no growling or snarling, just a lot of sniffing. It took a while to sort out all the Siberians and the people, but Shelby found Doug, Barbara, and her brother Sam. Kimi settled right in with Skip, Lillian, and Tucker. E-mails from Shelby and Kimi tell us that this story has not one, but two, happy endings. Left, Shelby gets comfortable in her new surroundings. Right, Tucker watches over his new sister.
OREO Norm and Karen write that Oreo has adjusted nicely. Norm says, "She took around 15 pounds off of me with our daily power walks. We bring her to day care one day a week. Oreo loves it there, and she socializes very well with everything from my daughter's Pomeranian to a German Shepard police dog."
DAKOTA Remember Dakota, the little girl with the withered front paw? Here she is on her way to meet her new mom, Jennifer.
KLONDIKE Klondike was none too anxious to leave his foster home, with his own bay window and a couch he shared with his friend Kevin. Eventually, though, it was time to move on and meet Wayne. Klondike still misses Kevin, Joice, and Drew, but now he's got his own upholstered rocking chair. Klondike writes: Here are a few pics of me in my new digs. Wayne and I are doing just fine. I'm taking him to obedience training. He's doing OK. Thanks, Klondike.
Josie is a story of survival. And love. She was adopted by Ed and his Mom about 4 or 5 years ago. She originally came to Angels of the Snow from the Carolinas, heartworm positive and with glaucoma in one eye. Ed and his Mom fostered her through her heartworm treatment, then her spay and eye surgery. At that point they decided she was just too perfect a girl to ever leave them. Josie has been ruling the roost ever since, and loving every minute of it.
