Shanook and Nikki romp with their humans.
Daisy Mae is the only surviving female from Gypsy's last litter. She's been adopted by a loving Cape Cod family.
Christi (l.) brought her four puppies with her to Cape Cod: Dixie, Jackson, Mason, and Taylor. They were scheduled to be euthanized in a West Virginia shelter.
Chief, now affectionately known as "Fuzzbucket," seems to have found a home after having been abandoned in the dunes of Truro.
That black thing attached to Tundra's left leg is Pinky, the family cat.
Granite is a September 11 dog, fka Brooklyn. He seems glad to be out of the city.
Tolstoy and Prada have grown considerably since we last saw them.
Nannette's Nut House Nannette's love of Siberian Huskies began as a foster mother. "Now," she writes, "my house is total husky. They get into just about everything. I've started a new job and haven't done any cleaning for a week. Just picture four huskies and a teenager (that cleans only if I flip out on him) in a house with me coming in only to feed the dogs. The kid can feed himself, LOL). The dogs go outside and play while I rake the kennels, and then I go to bed. I'm always up around 6, a 7:00 morning would be so nice. "Storm has been jumping my 4 foot fence, so I'm putting chicken wire around it to take it up to 5 1/2 feet. Cherokee, well, she's an angel, LOL. She has calmed down quite a bit, but she's still a little hell raiser. Her first birthday just passed. Originally I wanted a playmate for her. I decided to foster on March 6 after I read in Sibernet that two huskies were put down in NY after being there for just 3 days. One of them was only a month older than Cherokee. I cried for almost 2 hours and then decided to foster. "I went and bought a 6x10 kennel, just in case whoever I had here didn't get along with Cherokee. Shortly after that Kai came in. He had been badly neglected. His previous owner left him tied to a tree all the time, sometimes not even coming home. The neighbors used to feed him and give him water. When the weather was very cold the neighbors convinced the owner to bring him inside, where he was put in a closet. Finally, the neighbors asked the owner to surrender the dog, and I got him. Lucky me! He's such a good boy! "Foster? Yeah, right! It didn't take long for us to fall in love. He was three years old in June. He's even (when I'm watching) stopped chasing the cats. Kai still isn't too fond of Fredi yet, but is learning to tolerate her. Fredi is running around the yard now and Cherokee and Kai need to go out. I better put one of them on a leash to make sure they're OK. Where are Jay and Russia?"
Update from Nannette, 10/4/02 I was up to 5 dogs for a while. They all came to me rather quickly, and it was insane. Fredi wasn't getting along with Storm, so they had to stay separated all the time. Kai didn't get along with Red, so they couldn't mix. Fredi didn't like the crate, so don't put her in there for too long, or she'll sound like she was dying (in an old timers key). Storm, well, she only would be in the crate when SHE felt like it. If she went to bed at 10 and that was okay, but if she felt like coming out at 3am, she screamed (I'm surprised you didn't here her there). I couldn't just let her out, because Cherokee, Kai and Red were crated. I'd have to get up, get dressed and go put her in the kennel (I didn't trust her in the yard, she's escaped too often, if there were a way to jump the fence, she'd find it). This was all with me working 48 hours a week. I got very tired, no one ever let me sleep past 6, even if I didn't get home from work until 3:30 am. Red (who's new name is Lancelot) is running with his new sister in the yard. He now lives in Falmouth and his sister Dakota is a 3 year old blind husky girl. Fredi is with her new sister, who is older, and is living in New Hampshire. Her new owners fell in love with her picture (3 rows up, far left) and didn't care about her age. I'm down to 3 dogs right now, including Storm who is still up for adoption. I've actually been able to SLEEP lately. Now Kai and Cherokee stay in their crates until
10, they don't care. Storm likes to sleep outside in the kennel, I'm sure she'd
like to sleep in the house on the couch, but Cherokee and Kai are crated right
now. Cherokee is still a little brat, but with 5 dogs and a very demanding
job, I didn't have any time for training, cleaning or anything else. It's not
easy to constantly juggle dogs. Well, I have to go and get ready for work:
12 - 10 today. URG.... I have Thursday off, I can't wait. Click HERE for an update on Storm.
